Original Inspired Data Center Design

Nowadays, There are countless data centers in various industries around the world, Most of which are with the same structures and designs. However a part of data centers take our breath away with their exquisite and stunning designs. Let’s start from those epic data centers. Our aesthetic standards might be different, but we can’t deny the beauty and uniqueness of these data center.

Villain's Nest

                                                   Bahnhof Pionen Data Center

Starting with Bahnhof’s Pionen data center, Bahnhof operates an underground data center in Stockholm, Sweden. Several data centers were set up during this cold-war military bunker and all of these data centers were linked. The visual inspiration of Pionen's data center comes from the design of the 007 series of films. Built by Jon Karlung to provide server support for WikiLeaks. The data center uses a submarine diesel engine as a backup power source, and it references the design of plants and waterfalls in the 1970s film Silent Run. As an abandoned nuclear radiation shelter, some props and souvenirs are also placed to trace back the past.

Barcelona Supercomputing Center

                         Church Building

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center was built in a former church in Torre Girona. This 19th-century church was rebuilt after the Spanish Civil War and is now becoming a part of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

In 2005, the building became a supercomputer facility and Mare Nostrum was once one of the fastest running supercomputers in the world. Although it may not be able to reach the high speed operation today, it is still one of the best expectations of people.

Switch Company Pyramid Network in Michigan

 Switch Company's Steelcase Pyramid

All of Switch's data centers have a trademark style, but there are other benefits to having a data center established in Michigan. It reused and decorated an iconic building meanwhile building new data center facilities to create an unusual data center campus.

Steelcase, an office furniture manufacturer, established a pyramid-like enterprise development center near Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1989 and has 10 research laboratories. Steelcase moved out in 2010 and the building was vacant for six years.

Switch Corporation recommends this building as the core building of the data center campus and is currently under construction.

    Green Mountain Data Center

Green Mountain Data Center

The Green Mountain data center was built in a fjord in Norway, which has been an abandoned NATO underground base. The data center obviously has high security, as well as abundant green energy and cold water for cooling servers.

It also has a strong sense of beauty. The internal tunnel is carved out of hard rock and the exterior of the data center is a green, calm valley above the fjord.

               Storage database

Naver, the Korean portal, has a data center at the foot of Gubong Mountain in the Chuncheon Valley in Gangwon-do. It stores customers' online datas. It is called Gak. The Kuizhang Pavilion is a royal library of the Joseon Dynasty in the 18th century that stored a large number of wooden Buddhist scriptures.

The building incorporates traditional design elements and cutting-edge environmental technologies such as the reuse and recycling of rainwater.
